If someone is interested enough to persue this - I suggest that the
accreditation model used by the Aus Medical Writers Association is worth a
look.
I think they need to do x courses (there is a choice) that are provided as
an adjunct to the annual conference. This conference moves around the states
(only Eastern??) and a committee chooses the courses and the presenters. I
did a course last year on Editing - I had to give pre-course 'homework' and
mark it in class so there was work related participation. Anyway, at the
time I was quite inpressed with their organisation and also the fact that I
had more than 30 participants at my session.
They do pay the presenters - a nominal fee.

Hi Jill,

I agree. Swinburne should not be involved at all.

The ASTCs should be running the accreditation debate IN CONSULTATION WITH
their members and I agree that those sitting in 'judgement' should be
industry experts and NOT simply well intentioned volunteers with the time
and the inclination.

Much as I'm against the concept of the local chapter of the STC (sorry Jill,
nothing personal), I would even rather they did it than Swinburne but I know
the ASTCs have been looking at this issue for a while so why the push for
Swinburne involvement?

Any survey from Swinburne will only give them a level of prominence in the
debate that they do not deserve and as such, the survey should be ignored.

My 0.02 - it's been a while.

Regards,

Bruce Ashley
