Hello everyone,
I'm sorry I haven't posted to the list in a long time. I have been
watching some threads with interest, especially the recent one about
cassette tape noise.

I'm really writing because I’ve been frustrated many times over the
last couple of years by companies selling products online. It’s mainly
the lack of accessibility in relation to their websites and digital
products which gets to me.
I have a product idea which will make mainstream companies more aware
of us as an important community that spends money online. I’d really
value your help and if you complete the survey within seven days, I’ll
post the results of the survey to the list. There’s an awful lot we
can do with this survey:
*I want to help my local advocacy group make their case that there’s a
lot of money that companies are missing out on as a result of their
ignorance about us as a consumer group.
*The Radio station I work at, (Insight Radio), would be able to make
this a focal point, drawing over 100000 people’s attention to
accessibility issues as something they can make a difference in.
*Given that 2015 is the 800th anniversary of the signing of The Magna
Carta, it wouldn’t be too difficult for me to get some press
attention. (The Freedom from Discrimination Act).

What I have to say will only be news worthy if enough of us take
action. By doing this, we will make these companies sit up and take
notice but the more of us who respond, the better!

Here’s the link:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1YmbOxm4_jPOBOpN6GOyCWzeK_HgUANrgJkVlForV_JU/edit#

I know it may appear as two lines but if you paste it into a fresh web
page, it will open properly.

By the way it is a 10 minute survey, (with thinking time included),
and I filled it out myself with a Braille stopwatch so I can say that
with experience, hee hee!
Thank you again,
Sandra.

Hi Robbie,
I don't know very much about Jaws scripting, but I think it's unlikely that
the "goto" feature could be scripted,

Could this "goto" feature be scripted in JAWS? I'm thinking of the link
lists
and header lists you can call up with JAWS. Such a thing for tracks would be

brilliant, although of course it's always preferable to have accessibility
features built into the program, rather than the screen reader. I say
accessibility feature because I assume sighted people can use the mouse to
quickly scroll through a long track list.

Hi Robbie,
concerning moving tracks to a specific place, and moving the focus to a
specific track. Unfortunately these won't be in the next release, but I'm
still aware of these feature requests. For moving focus to a specific track

using its first letter, this would have to done in a "goto" dialog, as
letters
can be used as shortcuts in the main audacity window.
A couple of related things will be in the next release:
1. Ctrl+Home and Ctrl+End will move the focus to the first and last track.
2. Move Up/down/Top/And bottom will be proper commands. By default they
don't
have shortcuts assigned to them, but you'll be able to assign shortcuts in
preferences.

David.

Hi David!
Please, no changes to audio tracks. What with selected, solo and
occasionally
synclock, there already is a rat's tail of info. Besides, most times you can

hear whether a track is stereo or mono. True, a centered recording can sound

like mono while being stereo, but the user should know their material.
Besides, when creating a new track you make a conscious decision which kind
of
track it should be. And if you're uncertain you can just check the context
menu and you'll know which it is.

While we're on tracks, I'm hoping for the previously discussed option of
moving tracks to a specific place. Will that feature in the upcoming
version?
Another thing I would warmly welcome is an option to set the focus to a
specific track. The other day I had a project with over 100 tracks and it
was
a pain in the proverbial to have to cursor up and down. It would for
instance
be nice if you could enter a target track number or even press the initial
letter of the track name like in Windows Explorer.

That said, I do appreciate all the work that goes into Audacity, of which
I'm
an enthusiast. Thumbs up folks!

Cheers! Robbie

wanted

Hi,
based on suggestions by Robert Hänggi, these are a couple of proposed
changes
to the names of tracks read out by screen readers:
1. For audio tracks, if the track is stereo, left, or right, then these
words
are spoken immediately after the name of the track. So if you had a track
"intro music", and it was stereo, then it would be read as "intro music
stereo". If the track is mono, then that word isn't spoken.
2. For Label tracks, if the track has its default name - you haven't changed

its original name, then the two words "label track" are spoken after the
name
of the track, for example, "track 3 label track". If you change the name of

the track, to for example "labels", then the words "label track" are not
spoken.

I know that when changes to track names were raised in the past, there were

concerns about increasing the verbosity too much. I hope that the above
changes may provide valuable information without increasing the verbosity
too
much.
Any feedback about these changes is welcome, preferably as soon as possible,

as the changes for the next version of Audacity are going to be finalized
within the next few days,

thanks,
David.
