The Greek Ministry of Education announced the elimination of Art classes
(Visual Arts and Music) in junior High School (gymnasium) and High School
(lyceum). According to the new schedule promoted by the Ministry, Art
Education will be eliminated in just one class: 1st grade of junior high.
By voting to this petition, you help us to say NO to such a decision, which
is totally disintegrating, dissolving and clearly incompatible with the
real needs of education and society... Art is not a luxury but a necessity,
this truth is accepted by society for many years, and no one can or has the
right to disregard this. The removal of art classes means in fact the
setback of all education many years back.
Instead of eliminating Art Education, we should find ways to upgrade it and
enhance the cultural vision of young people and for the generations to come.
