Thanks Alan,

I'm profiling a Epson 1400 with InkjetFly dye inks. I was surprised how
close the Colormunki profiles using 784 patches were to the DTP20 using
2284. The differences were subtle. Side by side, I would be hard pressed
to say I preferred one over the other. If anything, I think the Colormunki
profile compressed the dark end of the profile a bit. The DTP20 profile
seemed to produce a more linear gradient with more details in shadow areas.

I get good profiles using my i1 pro and four letter sized sheets (1848
patches including a 21 step gray scale). I used to have a ColorMunki when I
was first experimenting with Argyll and did a couple of profiles with 1568
patches (8 pages) that also seemed quite good. I suspect for RGB printers
this is the ball park that you should be looking at (I have an Epson 3880).

To anyone,

Just wondering about the "magic numbers" suggested for utilizing targen.
For a 4 page set of targets there is such a wide variation in the number of
patches depending on the device. A SpectroScan will have over five and a
half times as many patches as the Colormunki with the -h switch. Quality
differences between these devices not withstanding, will the Colormunki
profile be substantially inferior? Would I have to print 22 pages of
patches to approximate the quality of the Spectroscan?

I realize the magic numbers are a compromise between quality and paper
usage.would just like someone's opinion on this as I have a Colormunki Photo
and a DTP20 (Pulse).
