I'm on the learning curve with ArygyllCMS, and the .icm that I created was
less than what I expected, specifically (1) the greyscale wasn't a smooth
gradient and (2) I'm confused a bit about ProPhoto configuration.
Here's my configuration for testing a RedRiver paper with 420 swatches:
targen -v -d2 -G -e4 -g8 -f420 "RR_PDSG"
printtarg -v -i CM -h -T 300 -C -p Letter "RR_PDSG"
chartread went without a hitch
colprof -v -A"Epson" -M"P800" -D"RR_Palo_Duron_SoftGloss_Rag" -C"2016 Jack
Dausman" -S /opt/Argyll_V1.9.1/ref/ProPhoto.icm -Zr -qh -i D50 -cmt -dpp
"RR_PDSG"
I'm going to switch to some less expensive paper to really bake in the
process, as the paper/ink combination eats through a lot of my stock in
learning the process for a good icm
Questions:
- I'm guessing that 420 swatches isn't enough, but I was still surprised
to see banding in the greyscale gradient on test image. Is 840 the next
appropriate step up ?
- For ProPhoto, do I need to do anything further other than include it
in colprof ?
- Can I take the .icm I just created and use it for pre-conditioning ?
Thanks for your guidance,
Jack
