The November Activity Meeting will be

  *How the Internet Works: DNS*

presented by Ian Ridge.

A major part of the Infrastructure of the Internet is the Domain Name
Service (usually abbreviated to DNS). The overall authority for this
service is The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA).

The Domain Name Service is the system that allows an Internet user to
type an address such as http://www.alphalink.com.au/ and be directed
to the correct server.

Ian will explain how this system works and give an overview of the
infrastructure that provides the service.

Please email apicug if you will be attending.

The Meeting will be held in the Telstra Conference Centre
at Collins Place, Melbourne
11th floor, 35 Collins Street, (corner Exhibition St)

12:30pm to 1:45pm Thursday 11 November, 2004
