For Sunday, July 12, we are looking for a greeter and someone to bring
snacks.
This coming Sunday, July 12, we will be hearing from Julie and Phil Hart
about their work with Christian Peacemaker Teams in Colombia, South
America. Julie will be sharing images and experiences during the adult
Sunday school. Phil will be preaching and sharing images during the worship
service.
Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT) partners with communities around the world
who are suffering from violence and oppression. These communities ask CPT
to accompany them (as unarmed body guards) so that they can carry on their
work without being harassed, kidnapped or killed. Julie and Phil Hart’s
stories and photos are about their CPT accompaniment work in Colombia,
South America since 2004, focusing on the courageous local leaders who have
chosen to stand up nonviolently to oppression from armed groups in the
ongoing civil war.
Phil and Julie Hart are members of Columbus (Ohio) Mennonite Church. They
are Reserve Corps members of Christian Peacemaker Teams (Julie since 1996
and Phil since 2007) working in Colombia for a month each summer. Julie is
a professor of sociology and peace & justice at Ohio Dominican University,
formerly a professor at Bethel College, North Newton, Kansas. Phil is a
building contractor who is recently retired and pursuing his love for music
and furniture making. They have two grown sons, Jonas 35 and Kellen 32.
