Hello, AMC! I look forward to being with you Sunday, when I plan to preach from the Liturgy of the Palms lectionary selection, which includes Matthew 21:1-11. The last 4 verses (8-11) read: A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. The crowds that went ahead of him and that followed were shouting, "Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven!" When he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was in turmoil, asking, "Who is this?" The crowds were saying, "This is the prophet Jesus from Nazareth in Galilee." I encourage you to bring coats, jackets, sweaters, overshirts, etc. for aiding the worship. It could be meaningful to see your own garment spread on the altar floor in honor of the "one who comes in the name of the Lord." Afterwards, you can retrieve your cloaks. Alternatively, I plan to stop by a thrift store and pick up a couple of "cloaks" or jackets and lay them in the altar area, as well. After the service I will take them to ARCH (Austin Resource Center for the Homeless); anyone is welcome to join me in donating and delivering to ARCH. See you Sunday.
