Mark Van Steenwyk Mark Van Steenwyk has invited you to the event 'The Common Root 2009: creating our future in the shadow of Empire' on common root! We're still working out some of the details, but this is shaping up to be a very solid gathering. I know February in Minnesota is cold, but it will be worth it. We're keeping the costs minimal and are The Common Root 2009: creating our future in the shadow of Empire Time: February 13, 2009 at 2pm to February 14, 2009 at 9pm Location: Faith Mennonite Church Organized By: Mark Van Steenwyk Event Description: Together we will explore ways of creatively embracing the in- breaking Kingdom of God in the shadow of Empire. We want to foster creative resistance to the status quo as we seek community practices that bring shalom to a broken world. This gathering will feature talks by Greg Boyd, Tom Sine (as well as two other as-yet- unconfirmed presenters), as well as a number of workshops. The focus is on cultivating communities of faithfulness in the shadow of empire. A major element of the gathering is the "planting track" (featuring training from Jeff Wright from CAL in Southern California) for those interested in participating in our planting initiative, as well as other workshops exploring different approaches to ministry, practicing nonviolence, living sustainably, etc. Registration will be $30...registration information will be coming shortly.
