We are thankful for the electricians who answered the call and served in Jan. and will serve in Feb. Crew leaders needed in West Liberty, KY, in March and Far Rockaway, NY, after Mar. 15. If you are interested in any of the opportunities listed, please call (800) 241-8111 or e-mail syoder@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx for more information. *BRAITHWAITE, LOUISIANA – RV Project <http://e2.ma/click/esihc/6demzb/ahv0t> * *Disaster: 2012 Hurricane Isaac* We continued the work at Mr. Ken’s house; the men installed drywall while Jake and the ladies did the mudding and sanding. Mr. Ken’s wife has come out with him most days this week. They bring their lunch and enjoy sitting with us at break and lunch time. They have given us much information about the area and also shared about the awful experience of being flooded and losing everything. It is a real joy to be working in their house and to watch their excitement as they anticipate moving back in. * * *BASTROP, TEXAS* <http://e2.ma/click/esihc/6demzb/q9v0t>*Disaster: 2011 Wildfires* Our volunteers are actively working on five houses. Two of the homes will be ready for an open-wall inspection soon. Both of these houses have their siding and roofs in place. Mr. Kenneth and Ms. Patricia are making their plans for a dedication of their house on Feb. 16. They are looking forward to having their children and grandchildren join them for the celebration. *BASTROP, TEXAS - RV Project* <http://e2.ma/click/esihc/6demzb/61w0t>*Disaster: 2011 Wildfires* Pete and Dennis spent the week on their backs in a crawl space working on Mr. John’s plumbing rough-in. They never uttered a word of complaint at needing to go back for another day, but they both had big smiles when Bert got them another creeper to make their task somewhat easier! Marion, Mary Ann and our two Helens had worked themselves out of a job at Ms. Veronika’s, so, Bert made sure to have plenty of siding, soffit and fascia boards delivered to Mr. Guy’s house to keep them occupied. Upon calculating how many feet of product they had painted, we determined that if these boards had been laid end to end, it would be the equivalent of painting approximately four-fifths of a mile of eight-foot boards! *BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA* <http://e2.ma/click/esihc/6demzb/mux0t>*Disaster: 2011 Tornados* Decks were completed and things dried out enough to bring in the equipment to dig out for the foundation of Mr. Aubrey and Mrs. Sue’s home. Foundation forms were placed and concrete poured, leveled, and rebar put in place. It is with such mixed emotions that Mr. Aubrey watches as all the work is going on. Before his injuries, he could have done this all by himself, so standing by is difficult. He has planned the placement of their home strategically so that the sun would shine in his window perfectly at the equinox, warming him in his chair. *CORDOVA, ALABAMA - RV Project* <http://e2.ma/click/esihc/6demzb/2my0t>*Disaster: 2011 Tornados* We are making great strides in repairing the house of Ms. Diane. The drywall and mudding are done in the gutted rooms and Corrine and Carolyn painted the kitchen with a coat of primer. The bathroom got a new floor and new vinyl on Thursday and also the new toilet was installed. It is such a joy to see the homeowner's smile as she sees the progress being made. The majority of the jobs thus far have been some kind of clean up: mucking out, taking ruined belongings to the curb, ripping out soaked carpeting. We have also done some to minor repairs: removing cabinets, doors and frames; ripping out drywall and flooring; and gutting basements. Three major repairs have also been started. *JOPLIN, MISSOURI <http://e2.ma/click/esihc/6demzb/y7z0t> Disaster: 2011 Tornado* We had 21 volunteers this week. It was a great and productive week. Miss Katherine, a client, came for supper on Wednesday and shared her story; all the way the way from the alarm to recovery and rebuilding of her home. Leland Hostetler stopped by on Thursday and shared his story from the perspective of a first responder. The volunteers got a small glimpse of the disaster and its effect on the survivors. *MINOT, NORTH DAKOTA <http://e2.ma/click/esihc/6demzb/e000t>Disaster: 2011 Floods* After finishing some last minute mudding and taping at Mr. Allen and Mrs. Deb’s house, David was introduced to texturing. He completed the upstairs of the house and did a very fine job. Thursday evening Mr. Allen, Ms. Deb, daughter Ms. Randi and her three children joined us for dinner and shared their flood and recovery story with us. Mr. Allen has some serious health issues and so progress has been slow and discouraging for them. Their appreciation for anything that MDS can and is doing for them was a blessing and encouragement to us. On the weekend, with the help of her three daughters and a friend, Ms. Deb completed the primer coat, giving us a head start to continue the painting next week. *WEST LIBERTY, KENTUCKY <http://e2.ma/click/esihc/6demzb/us10t>** Disaster: 2012 Tornado*. The home of Mr. Ronald saw good progress this week. In spite of the cold and icy conditions on Monday, the crew put the metal roofing on. There were 4000 nails pounded into the hurricane straps that tie the house and rafters together. Yes, the crew took the time to figure that out and report to us during de-brief. Windows were installed, the house wrap was nearly finished and the first layer of insulation was put into the walls. The ceiling drywall was put up and interior walls were framed, and then it was Friday and time to call it a week. *Contributions may be sent to:* USA: 583 Airport Road, Lititz, PA 17543 or Can.: 6A-1325 Markham Rd, Winnipeg, MB R3T 4J6 Donate Online <http://e2.ma/click/esihc/6demzb/al20t>Tel: USA (800) 241-8111 Can.
