Subject: FLEX girl with cerebral palsy

Dear All,
I have received an application of a FLEX girl who has cerebral palsy.

Here are comments about her disability:
the student is mobile/independent; she goes to the store and to school by
herself. She walks a little slower than a normal person.
It is not a problem for student to pick up or move small things or pull out a
chair or turn the pages of a book. Sometimes when nervous, she is a bit more
difficult to understand. It takes her a little bit more time to change
clothes. When she gets nervous, she has some difficulty controlling her
arms and upper body. She eats, sleeps, bathes on her own and without any
special attention. She will do best in a calm environment with sincere host
family who will take care of her but not feel sorry for her. A warm climate
is preferable. The student seems independent, out going, self sufficient and
mature. She also has a great sense of humor and a strong desire to explore
other cultures. She needs additional time for writing.
The disability does not affect her every day life but she is vulnerable. She
can attend herself, but it takes more time. She should not hold a full hot
cup of tea or full bowl of soup. She can participate in pe classes but needs
 additional time to change clothes.

One other concern: she has not received any immunizations and it is written
that it is "contraindicated" - therefore, she will not receive any
immunizations. I don't know if we have any schools that will accept a
student who has not been immunized. I'm sure that there are some American
kids who get exempt from this due to health or religious reasons, but I
don't know if any schools would be as tolerant of an exchange student not
 having any immunizations.

Does anyone have a HF and school that they could place this girl in? She
is from Azerbaijan. I have told the head office that I don't know if we can
place her - not so much due to the cerebral palsy, but because of not having
 any immunizations. Thanks,
Ana
