Friends, Message that came in this a.m. from MennoLink. Ray
FR: David E. Ortman (Seattle, WA)
Assuming that Mennonites are in the 25% tax bracket and half of their income
tax goes to military related purposes, one could estimate that Mennonites
give more to to the Pentagon each year than the 10% they may be giving to
the church.
Since April 16 is Sunday this year, perhaps there should be a special offering in each of our Mennonite churchs in which ushers dressed up in military uniforms come and take a special offering directly for military purposes. Somehow mailing in checks to the IRS on April 15 seems so impersonal.
Of course, there should be a special military war tax dedication song. Perhaps something along the following lines:
To the tune of 118 (formerly 606):
Please take our money to be used for war.
That's what our offertory's for.
That's what our offertory's for. Please buy more guns Please buy more tanks
Please buy more bombs And drop them from above. Please buy more guns Please
buy more tanks Please buy more bombs And drop them from above. Praise
Cheney, Bush, and Don Rumsfeld Praise Cheney, Bush, and Don Rumsfeld Here's
our Money, Here's our Money, Here's our Money, amen. Amen, Here's our Money
Here's our money, Here's our money, Buy more bombs, 'cause, Here's our
money, Here's our money, Here's our money, Here's our money, amen. Amen.
Here's our money, Amen. Here's our money, Amen.
