Conference and Congregational leaders:

During the February 2006 Executive Board meetings in Los Angeles, Pacific
Southwest Mennonite Conference pastors and staff talked about their work and
lives. Their foremost pastoral concern is legislation passed by the House of
Representatives in December 2005. Should something similar to this bill also
pass the Senate and then a joint House-Senate committee, caring and sharing
ministries of congregational and conference life may be illegal. Iglesia
Menonita Hispana (IMH) staff also voiced strong concerns.

The Executive Board feels Mennonite Church USA must respond immediately to
this anxiety regarding immigration and border issues. We already have a
Mennonite Church USA Churchwide Statement on Immigration, passed on July 5,
2003 http://mennoniteusa.org/NewItems/delegates/statement_immigration.pdf
but we need an update on the situation and to take action. We encourage you
and your congregation to

study the biblical mandate for giving hospitality to strangers

learn about pending legislation and

fax your legislators in March.

Attached you'll find materials to help your congregation respond:

* a letter from Roy Williams, Mennonite Church USA moderator,
*       an information handout and
*       an action handout.

You'll find additional resources and links at:

and a new immigration button at OneSource, www.MennoniteUSA.org/resources.

May you feel God's blessing as you choose to show hospitality.
