Michele I don't know what machine you have or how bad the static electricity is but besides being a nuisance, given the opportunity static electricity can "kill" the electronics in your machine. Doing things like adding a humidifier to take some of the dryness out of the air, grounding your equipment, using anti-static sprays on rugs [this tends to be more of a temporary fix], installing rubber mats, etc. will all help to get rid of or lessen static electricity.
