I usually leave it on auto unless I'm having problems. Then I may switch to
standard feed, setting it a little higher than what the auto acti-feed was
running at, or I may just continue on auto and set the lower limit up a bit.
Most of my problems occur on flats like quilter's fabric or otherwise very thin
fabrics.
