I get a package of round cotton cosmetic pads. Women normally use them for makeup removal. I fold them into half, then half again and snip a hole in the center. Put them on the thread holders then push the thread cone on top of them. I use alot of Madiera thread and it keeps them stable. I also use them for the smaller 1000 spools and just rest the small spools on top of them. Very stable, very cheap. You can find these in any drug or grocery store in the cosmetics isle.
