My friend does commercial alterations and has many machines but the one we use
for the lettermen jackets is a Consew. The knee-lift raises the presser foot
high enough to get the wool jacket and patch moved around to sew. I have looked
on the web to find a machine for myself, haven't found just what I want.
I know we don't charge as much as some, but the student has over $100 in a
jacket and our bill is $40-$45 for all the patches plus embroidering their
name.
We open a side seam all the way into the sleeve a little. Not too far, you have
to sew it up again.
My friend get dozens of these to do, I get maybe 4. I have her sew mine, she
has me embroider hers.
