The Grabber blade doesn't trim or cut the thread. The Moveable Knife, located 
under the needle plate actually cuts the thread, and the grabber blade then 
swings back and pushes the cut thread out of the garment into the Grabber 
bracket where the Velcro strips hold it in place until that needle is ready to 
sew 
again. The grinding sound that you are hearing is because the thread is not 
being cut by the moveable knife so when the grabber blade swings back it can't 
travel the full distance that it needs to and the motor starts to,,,,,, 
(Complain). 

Check your knife to see if there are any burrs or scratches on the cutting 
surface, and also check to see that the knife actuals fires. Also your 
retaining 
finger may not be adjusted properly causing the knife to miss the loop.

If your needles are turned to far to the right, they may also cause missed 
trims on occasion.
