I recently discovered that double stick tape around the top of the frame holds 
most items better than the sticky backing.  Many of the items that I embroider 
with the fast frame do not need backing such as tote bags and Christmas 
stockings, etc.  I use it even when using the sticky backing, but even then 
still use clamps.  They are a pain, but it is what I have for the time being 
and the double stick tape does help.
