No, it is not a glitch. Just because you are using the cornering tool doesn't
mean that it is going to "automatically" do every corner, every time without
tweaking as you did.
For long pointy corners, I prefer the "caps", other places I use what looks the
best between miter and caps. But I am always moving wireframe points
around(stitch direction lines in columns) or deleting them to get the miter or
cap to take......falls into one of those, "that's just the way it is"
catagories.
