IF the Carhart jacket has the hidden zipper like the Sanmar work
jacket, then you can use a speed frame clamp for the chest pocket
area. But there isn't a speed clamp that will work for the back...way
too much excess jacket material to fit in the clamp.
Depending on the size of the logo, I end up using one of the two
larger 'wood' hoops on the jacket back.
I reach inside the lining (advantage of Sanmar jackets-that zipper!,
maybe you can convert your client to these instead of Carhart)
and spray the jacket back itself with a blast of adhesive spray-then
slide in a full piece of backing-3 oz. usually.
The adhesive holds it in place-so I don't have to worry at all about
having it slide off the hoop while I line that up.
I use one of the 'platens' (screenprinting table) on my 4 color
screenpress for all hooping-makes it easy.
Once the backing is stuck in place, I can then slide the hoop back
inside, line it up for the outerhoop and move it
around to where it has to go-then press down. I keep the hoop screw
loose, until it is in place and pushed together-then
reach up and tighten it by finger to hold it. All my hoops have
regular adhesive backing cut into 1/2" strips and stuck around the
inside/outside pieces for extra gripping.
Because of the zipper on the Sanmar jackets, then I can slide the
excess jacket and the hoop right onto the machine,
have the design flipped upside down, and sew away!
Sanmar also does not have that stupid center seam down the back that
screws up tight hooping.
The last and only time we did Carhart jackets, we had to rip out the
bottom seam on the quilted lining to get 'inside'
the jacket-then paid a local seamstress to sew it back.
Otherwise all your embroidery goes right through the quilting and you
have just killed the insulation value.
