Yes, you are correct. I have the dongles. She suggested I put them in my purse so they didn't get lost, so that's ONE thing I do have. ----- Original Message ----- From: Roland R. No matter how we tried, even just copying one file at a time to replace the same ones in the folders-it looked for 'her' dongle, not mine. Talked to a tech and they confirmed...they are dedicated to a single dongle number. Some one had posted on the amaya board last year I think that there was a way to copy the programs over and get around the security thing but I didn't keep track of that. But Melco has all the dongles and machines registered and on file...at the worst she might be asked to buy a new dongle if she doesn't have it-but if she did keep that (didn't she say she brought it home in her pocket) then they can send her new disks linked to that dongle. I run Flexi Sign on my macs for my vinyl cutter, and it has the same deal...when you get upgrades from them it is tied into your 'registered' version of the software. Another shop gave me her old disks, newer than what I run...and I couldn't use them...took her months to find her old dongle and the security password so now I can install it. I sold my AMAYA machine and computer 12 moths back. Occasionally I do some design work for an AMAYA owner (not the one I sold) and I use their dongle on my laptop that runs a copy of the Designshop program I loaded when I had my machine. The disks you get from Melco all have a security code-the DONGLE for each machine. So you can try installing it or using it as an upgrade all day long and you won't be able to get it running...it will be looking for the dongle key written into the program. This is because when the program is installed parts of it are loaded into different areas of the hard drive. But don't despair. If you contact Melco they would most likely give you the discs for free. The value of the program isn't in the disc is in the dongle (that's the device that looks like a USB drive). If Melco wont help, you can copy a disc that someone else has. Same with the Dakota disc. Some of the things that went missing were the original OS, Design Shop and Dakota Designs 2005. While they are currently installed on the computer that came with the machine, I don't want to take any chances, because if the computer crashes, I have no OS etc. Would someone be able to explain to me how to make a copy of the software that is on the machine to have as a back up in case I need to re-install it? Thanks so much in advance. Colleen in Canada
