They interviewed Cris Nelson on the news this morning, and she said she plans to bring it back up. She feels that dogs, even leashed, are eventually going to cause a serious problem, and doesn't want to have to deal with the liability issues. She mentioned that even leashed dogs can get into a dog fight, can bite someone, or knock someone down.... The balance of the ordinance that was passed in April still stands. That regulation bans dogs from all athletic fields at city parks and calls for dogs to be leashed at Amphitheater and Joe Tucker Parks. Councilwoman Cris Nelson made the motion to withdraw the amendment and members voted 5-0 in agreement. Nelson said there has been so much discussion between council members and residents opposed to the amendment, she felt it was best to wait and revisit the issue after determining what is best for all concerned. Byline of Marienne Thomas Ogle ******************************************************************************************************** It might not be a bad idea for those in the Helena area to email or call Ms. Nelson with a thank-you for withdrawing this amendment. Please note though the following: ".....to wait and revisit the issue". This will probably come up again in the future. Donna In a message dated 9/15/2009 1:00:48 P.M. Man's best friend is welcome anytime at Helena's amphitheater, as long as he's on a leash. But City Councilwoman Cris Nelson was hoping to change that because she says at big events like Buckcreek, the 4th of July celebration, even farmers markets, pets are becoming safety hazards.
