Tek Talk Welcomes Blind Square to Demonstrate its Newest GPS Features, 8 pm
EDT, The pat price Room: www.accessibleworld.org
Tek Talk - BlindSquare version 3.0. GPS meets augmented reality, outdoors
and now indoors. The richness continues.
May 31, in celebration of the 3rd anniversary of BlindSquare, MIPsoft
released the third iteration of this highly awarded iOS application.
BlindSquare was awarded in June, the US Federal Communications Commission
(FCC) Chairman's Award for Advancement in Accessibility in the segment
Augmented Reality, in April the American Foundation for the Blind (AFB)
Access Award, in March the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB)
Winston Gordon Award of Excellence and, in January AppleVis developer of the
year for Ilkka. A rich pool of recognition encouraging the path of
continuous development that will be discussed in this program.
The program will focus on new features of BlindSquare including:
. Audio Menu and one-touch controls available when paired with
AfterShokz Bluez 2 headphones
. 3D sounds supporting the directional location of the millions of
POI's available to travelers
. Support for Transit+, the popular public transportation app
. Elevation feature, available for iPhone 6 and 6+
. Apple Watch support and special features
. Memory optimization and updates to OpenStreetMap
. Introduction of Indoor Navigation using BlindSquare Beacon
Positioning System (BPS). When GPS fails, BPS remains providing the
continuation of access to information to support travel, choices and
confidence.
Joining Ilkka Pirttimaa (creator of BlindSquare) is Ed Summers, a popular
presenter and knowledge source for advanced and advancing technologies. Ed,
an accessibility expert at analytics software provider SAS, was an early
adopter of BlindSquare and has been a strong proponent and user across all
versions. Ed has also participated in the beta development and design of
BlindSquare's Beacon Positioning System (BPS) supported by trials in the US.
Ilkka and Ed will be interviewed about the new features of BlindSquare by
Rob Nevin and discuss the first implementations of BlindSquare BPS around
the globe.
Questions will be encouraged!
