Experts say you can keep your kids from these apps by turning off their
ability to install apps without your approval.
The problem with these apps is they allow kids to hide their cyber lives
from their parents and sometimes the things theyre hiding can harm them,

are being createdmore than we parents can keep up with. Unfortunately,
many of the inappropriate ones are being downloaded by our children without
us knowing about it.
Apps To Watch Out For
How do you know what to look for? Here are a few apps that are considered to
be the most dangerous.

This app is fairly new and already being blocked by schools. It allows
posters up to submit up to 200 characters which can be view by their closest
500 Yakkers, determined by GPS tracking. Its gaining the reputation of an
app that allows you to anonymously post sexually explicit and abusive
language.

This app has a slogan that goes something like, The anonymous, simple, fun
way to find friends who are down for the night. Connected with Facebook,
friends are categorized in either someone they would like to hang around or
someone to hook up with. Originally, this app was known as Bang with

Using this app, you can video chat with someone else. Although you may
remain anonymous, it works by using your Facebook likes to match you with
someone you dont know but has similar likes as you. Because you are
matched with a stranger, there is a high risk that the stranger will be a
sexual predator.

Just a few years ago, a 12-year-old girl was raped by man she met while
using this app. This app is for telling secrets, and although anonymous, it
does display the area you are posting from. Its easy for kids to begin to
feel comfortable with a stranger they are confiding in and eventually give
out personal information.

KiK will also your kids to send messages that you cant see and verifying
the identities of the sender or receiver is very difficult. This is a very
popular app for kids under age 18, and its also very popular with sexual
predators. This app should be deleted from your childs phone.
How To Find Hidden Apps
There are a couple of ways to identify if your child is hiding their social
media apps from you several of them are apps themselves!
Poof is an app that you definitely need to be familiar with, because it
allows teens to make other apps they dont want you see disappear. Although
this particular app is no longer available, your child may still have it and
use it. Also, similar apps are created regularly, so its a good idea to
search online periodically for newer apps with these capabilities and see if
your child has downloaded any of them.

to create a password-protected Vault in which media such as photos and
videos can be hidden away from the main image gallery. Vaulty will also take

Pro is similar to Vaulty, but is available for both Android and iPhone
smartphones. It allows you to hide media, and the app itself is disguised as
an Audio Manager that seemingly controls the volume of the smartphone.
However, pressing and holding the app reveals a lock screen behind which
users can hide messages, photos, videos, and apps.

This is definitely not a complete list of apps your child may not want you
to know about, but its a start. If you see an app on your childs phone
that is new to you, google to find out what it does, and if it is safe for
your teen to be using.
Other ways to find hidden activity is through unexplained blanks or missing
data from their smartphones.

53% achieve this by clearing their browser history, while 34% hide or delete
messages, photos, or videos.
If you check your childs phone and see that they suddenly have no browser
history, or there is obviously chunks missing from various text
conversations, its safe to assume theyre taken steps to hide that from
you.
Other red-flag behaviors include
· Hiding their screen or turning off their device when you enter the
room.
· Refusing to hand over their passwords. If they have nothing to
hide, there should be no issue.
· A sudden increase in media usage. New apps can be addictive and
take up a lot of time.
Of course, the best method on how to find hidden apps and determine if your
teen is in trouble or using these apps inappropriately is to check their
phones regularly. Monitoring their activity with an app like TeenSafe allows
you to see deleted messages and social media activity that you might not
otherwise know about.

Theres a parenting alert about kids keeping secrets on their phones.
Kids are installing so-called secret apps that hide media like texts and
photos from their parents.
So how do these cyber secret keepers work? One of the apps looks like an
ordinary calculator app on the iPhone.
In fact, it is a standard calculator, but when you enter the secret password
that your child created and hit the percent key, a photo album appears.
Now theres pictures hidden that your child didnt want you to see.
Apps like these are becoming so popular, a county district attorney in
Alabama sent out a warning to parents on Facebook. Pamela Casey said a
parent called her about "Private Photo"
You and I know if one child knows about it, many children know about it, so
take a minute and grab that phone, Casey said in the video. The video is

The Gettysburg Address was 269 words. The Declaration of Independence is
1,337 words. Versions of the Bible range from 750,000 to 775,000 words.
According to Forbes.com, the U.S. Tax Code is about four million words,
"just under four times the number of words in all of the Harry Potter books
put together."
Roots of the personal income tax and the Internal Revenue Service go back to
the Civil War. President Abraham Lincoln and Congress in 1862 created the
first income tax to help pay for the war. It was repealed in 1872. Congress
revived the income tax in 1894, but the Supreme Court ruled it
unconstitutional in 1895.
The 16th Amendment authorizing the income tax was adopted Feb. 3, 1913, when
Delaware, Wyoming and New Mexico voted to ratify it, putting the amendment
over the required 36-state threshhold. Four states rejected the amendment.
And two other states never considered it, Florida was one of them.
The primary filing form has always been Form 1040. It comes from a
four-digit numbering system in 1913 when the first income tax forms were
created; the numbers started with 1,001. By the time this particular form
was finished, 39 others had been completed already.
President Gerald Ford was the first modern-day president to publicly release
a summary of his income tax returns; every president since then has released
their personal returns. President and Mrs. Obama's return for 2012 showed an
adjusted gross income of $608,611, itemized deductions of $258,385 and a
refund of $16,815.
The filing deadline for 1913 taxes was March 1. In 1918, the deadline date
was changed to March 15. In 1955 Tax Day was changed to April 15.

purchased from iTunes as they were not available to re-download if you lost
them
for any reason. That has changed recently. Apple has modified its license
for
Audio Book distribution so that you are now able to redownload Audio Books
just
like you could with iBooks, music or other iTunes media. This is really
good
news for IDevice users.
Here are the instructions:
Note: These instructions were written for sighted persons, who are not
using
voiceOver. If you are using VoiceOver: when the instructions say "Tap on
an
item", perform a one finger double tap.
Before you can access a past purchase, you need to do the following:
Make sure that you have the latest versions of software on your iPhone,

outdoor shuffleboard.
In Blindfold Shuffleboard, you can play by yourself, or against a variety of

Shuffleboard is played with 4 discs per player, and you alternate turns,

Apple has today released iOS 9.3.1 to the public, bringing a fix for the web
link crashing bug that many users have been experiencing since updating to
iOS 9.3.

ug-in-ios-93-is-coming-soon> AppleInsider, this bug was related to an iOS 9
feature called Universal Links, which allow third-party app developers to
have certain domain names open links directly into their app. This means
links tapped in apps like Safari, Mail, Messages and more will bypass Safari
and open the content directly in an iOS app.
At this time it is unknown whether this release includes any additional bug
fixes or under-the-hood improvements. However, coming so soon after

Why My iPhone Has Convinced Me to Start Learning UEB

Im a millennial. I love how the rapidly changing pace of technology allows
us access to so much information. I usually have no qualms about jumping
right in when a new, potentially revolutionary service comes out. For
instance, I cant wait to get my hands on an iPhone SE so I can try out
Apple Pay, if only to say that Ive tried it and to understand why Apple
hyped it up when they announced it. However, as humans, we generally only
like so much change. One change Ive been averse to is the adoption of UEB
in North America.
I grew up in the 80s and 90s learning Braille like anyone else, and while
Im not the fastest Braille reader, I used it all through school so its
what I know. So when I heard about UEB being adopted in the U.S., my knee
jerk reaction was dont take my grade 2 away! I didnt see how the new
rules and changes would benefit me.

With Apple, most of us are in for some big excitements when it comes to the
company's gorgeous events. Of course over the past couple of years, the
smorgasbord of leaks prior to the events have spoiled the anticipation phase
a bit. However, regardless of what you might or might not have heard about
Apple's event which was held this morning, let's focus on what the company
debuted. Maybe what was put at our fingertips can form the basis of our next
iDevice or Watch purchase.
This is not September, but we have an iPhone -- a miniaturized one!
Today Apple finally unveiled something many users were on the lookout for:
an iPhone which is not only smaller, but as powerful and feature-rich as its
older brethren: iPhone SE. This 4-inch iPhone reminds us of the older iPhone
5 line put on steroids. For instance, it uses the very same A9 CPU which can
be found in iPhone 6s. It also comes with a 12 megapixel back camera with
Live Photo/4K video capabilities and the Touch ID sensor and NFC sensor for
Apple Pay. 3D Touch, however, is absent to keep the 6s line the more
appealing offering.

Apple has today released watchOS 2.2 for the Apple Watch, bringing with it

In terms of new features, watchOS 2.2 introduces support for pairing
multiple Apple Watches with a single iPhone; this feature requires both
watchOS 2.2 and iOS 9.3 on the iPhone. Additionally, the native Maps app has
gained support for the Nearby feature first introduced with iOS 9, and also
now offers quicker access to directions to home and work.
Though these appear to be the main outward-facing changes in this release,
there are also very likely to be a number of bug fixes and under-the-hood

Dancing In Sand: Ferrite Audio Editing on the iPhone

I'm not of sound mind. I do not own a decent microphone and I am not an
audio engineer. I do not record music or podcasts. I simply have thousands
of audio files, captured and collected over a lifetime, that sometimes need
just a bit of attention.
I have been on a personal quest for the perfect subset of iPhone apps. I
have found wonderful productivity tools that allow me to read, write, and
research -- all through my iPhone. Still, a few solutions have eluded the
allure of going small. As much as I have hunted, I could never find a
recording studio that could fit into my shirt pocket. Life can be such a
challenge.
I first began to deal with my digital editing needs about fifteen years ago.
I purchased Sound Forge for my Windows machine. My desires were simple. I
wanted to extract snaps, crackles, and pops. I wanted classy fade-ins and
fade-outs. I wanted the ability to lay down music tracks as a soothing
background for my recorded memories. And, I absolutely wanted to snip out
anything that made me look stupid.
When I transitioned to the Mac in 2013, I gave up Sound Forge and began my
hunt for a new audio editor. I discovered

purchased the product and found it very accessible. I loved gliding smoothly
through the timeline, reviewing slivers of sound, and being able to freely
trim or extend my selections. The batch processing capabilities turned out
to be great. I also enjoyed the embedded effects and being able to hear the
consequences of any action before moving ahead. Sweet stuff.
So, if Amadeus Pro has been such a comfortable product, why am I looking for
an iPhone sound editor? Simple. I know that I am much more likely to
eventually clean up all of my raw and unedited sound files if I can do so
from my easy chair, the front porch, or my Mom's house. I saw

Social media is often subject to a lot of negative press and criticism, and
in some cases such coverage and opinion is justified. However, I believe
that social media is a fantastic form of modern media and source of
information when used appropriately.
I will begin by discussing what is meant by social media, and how it can be
of benefit to you. Then I will consider what you need to know when signing
up to different forms of social media, and I will explain some of the
terminology commonly found on many social media sites.
Before concluding, I will discuss how you can use social media on your iOS
device, and I will highlight some social media applications you may consider
researching and/or downloading. I will then conclude this post by giving you
2 little fun social media activities which you can complete if you so

*9) Switching from IOS to Android for the busy professional

I have recently switched to an Android phone namely the Motorola Moto-g
Third Generation phone. My iPhone 5 was showing its age and I want to wait
for the iPhone 7 before returning to that platform. I have a full time job
so need to get up to speed quickly.This means that I have to duplicate as
much of my iPhone experience as possible on Android. Yes, IOS and Android
are different operating systems but I need to be able to get the same things
done with equal facility.
By the way, I chose Motorola because they appeared to be providing a close
to stock Android experience and their updates appear with reasonable
frequency.
Getting my contacts:
The first thing I had to do was to export my contacts from IOS to Android.
The easiest way I found was to backup all my IOS contacts to a virtual card
file (*.vcf) and pull them into Android.
I used the following app to get all the contacts on my Iphone.

I e-mailed the file to the Google e-mail address I wanted and then opened it
in the default mail app of my Moto-g Third generation phone. The contacts
were imported.
The SIM card:
The iPhone takes a nano SIM while the Moto-G takes a micro SIM. A colleague
had a SIM adapter which I used to insert the SIM.
Starting Talkback:
The tip about placing two fingers that are slightly apart until you hear
Talkback does work on the Moto-G. Keep them towards the middle and a bit on
the left. One good thing about this phone is that it will vibrate when it
powers up.
The keyboard:
The next thing I had to do was to enter the key to my wireless router.
Typing is similar to IOS but the symbols you get when you change the
keyboard mode to symbols are different. You will have to learn this the hard
way. Be warned, if you have special characters, learn their different names.
For example, I had brackets in my wireless password. I was used to "left
bracket" and "right bracket." I had to revise the different terms for
brackets. Android calls them "left square bracket" and "right square
bracket."
The touch screen:
This is one of the biggest differences. In IOS, you can swipe with a large
part of your finger. In Android, use the tip of your finger for maximum
accuracy. The screen does feel different and I am not sure how or why that
is but it is something to get used too.
Explore by touch is handy and I tend to do more of this on Android thanks to
the bigger screen.
Answering calls:
This is a tad tricky. On the Moto-G third generation phone, you need to do a
2 finger swipe to the right a bit above the home key. This is true for other
phones as well. In settings under accessibility you can configure the home
button to answer and lock button to hangup if you have physical buttons and
not softkeys like the moto's home button. . Disconnecting a call with the
power button works nicely and can be configured from within talkback.
E-mail:

to get a stable connection to a Microsoft Exchange account. If the default
mail app (GMail) works, great if not, go for aqua mail. I was not getting a
stable connection to exchange so I want for aqua mail. The other advantage
of aqua mail over the default mail app (GMail) is that you can handle
meeting requests. Handling attachments is also different. You apparently
need to find the file name of the attachment below the subject header and
double tap it. You can then download or save the attachment. You then launch
the helper application of choice. If there is a better way to do this, feel
free to tell me.
Whats app messenger:
There is a problem I am facing here which is that I am unable to work with
emogies effectively. When I run my finger over them, they are not spoken.
However, when I enter, it is spoken. Until the problem is solved, I am
avoiding the use of emogies. Reading messages is different too. Swiping up
works better but that way, I get the messages in reverse order. In addition,
deleting chats is more involved. You need to open a chat then go into more
options and to more options and then clear the chat. If there is a shorter
way to do this, let me know.
A word on notifications:
I am still configuring the way I want notifications. There are differences
from IOS. You need to set parameters for each application.
Outdoor Nabigation:
Google Maps is good for turn-by-turn directions. It is installed by default
on the phone. However, to know what is around you, there are a host of apps.
One of the more promising ones is

Indoor navigation and scene reading

and scene reading. (This is not a typo.) I need to dodge a fair number of
people and to avoid filing cabinets etc.
Reading spreadsheets:
As of this writing, Google Sheets is more accessible than Microsoft Excel on
Android. Use it to read spreadsheets.
Reading files:
Voice Dream Reader exists on Android and that is what I have been using to
read books.

Editing:
I will probably update this section as I do more of this with the phone. As
of now, to navigate character-by-character when in an edit field, use the
volume key. Lowering the volume takes you backwords while increasing the
volume takes you forward.
Contacts and 3-way conferencing:
The contacts app takes getting used to. I have been unable to find all my
contacts by browsing but searching for them works reliably. The recent
calls, contacts to call and missed calls are on top of the screen. One thing
that has changed is that you see all the phone numbers of a contacts as you
scroll so be careful about which number you call. AAs regards 3-way
conferencing, it works similar to how it does on the iPhone, You hit the
"add call" button and should be placed in contacts. I kept hitting the dial
pad button so had to back out of the dial pad and reach contacts. You can
then call the contact and merge calls. The mute check box works as
described. As always, all this works much better when you use a headset.
Buying apps and the play store:
I buy apps from my desktop. I find it easier that way. I go to the play
store, search for the app, and get it. My phone is connected to my home
wireless network so gets the application automatically.

*11) Storing Onions, Making Beef Jerky

I recall the event as if it happened yesterday. I purchased a beautiful bag
of sweet white onions (10 pounds for an economical $2.98). I stood the bag
on the floor of the pantry. Within a few short weeks I expectantly reached
in to pull out a perfect specimen only to find the entire lot had gone soft
and were more black than
white. I hate when that happens.
A few days later I was reading one of my prized possessions, Julia Childs
The Way to Cook. Right there on page 25 is Julia illustrating the way to
store onions. She doesnt come right out and describe the method, but
careful inspection of that picture reveals one leg of a pair of pantyhose
(impeccably clean, you can be sure)
holding the onions and hanging from a hook. You can see where she dropped
one into the toe and then carefully tied a knot then another onion and
another knot until the tube if filled, tying it off again at the top.
Pretty ingenious if you ask me. By tying off between each one, the onions
are not touching another and the hose material allows air to circulate.
Doesnt look too bad, either. I dont hang mine right out there in full
view, but its great hanging from a hook in the pantry.
Now I just cut off one onion at a time and feel quite culinarily chic in the
process.
Onions and garlic (I store them the same way) seem to last forever with this
method.
If your kids love beef jerky as much as mine, you definitely need to learn
how to
make it yourself. This recipe will make jerky better than anything you can
buy, and it is infinitely cheaper. Make sure you get the beef on sale and
youll be under $7 a batch, possibly less. A pound of store-bought jerky in
my area runs anywhere from $19 to $27 a pound!
Beef Jerky
1 pound very lean beef (chuck or round)
1/4 cup Worchestershire sauce
1/4 cup soy sauce
1 tablespoon tomato sauce
1 tablespoon vinegar
1 teaspoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon dried onion flakes (or 1 teaspoon finely chopped fresh onion)
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1. Trim all visible fat from meat and freeze until firm and solid enough to
slice into thin strips. Cut across the grain and make sure that the slices
are thinabout 1/8-inch.
2. Combine remaining ingredients and pour liquid over meat. Refrigerate
overnight or for at least 8 hours.
3. Preheat oven to 140 degrees F. Remove meat from the marinade and place
the strips on a cake rack over a cookie sheet in the oven. Bake at this very
lower temperature until strips are very dry and splinter on the edges (from
18 to 24
hours).
Cool immediately before wrapping lightly in plastic wrap. Jerky will keep in
a tightly covered container for 2 to 4 weeks. This recipe multiplies well.

If you are generally wary of free stuff, Im right there with you. Most of
the time, Ive found, free stuff is like bait. Its a tasty morsel, a big
tease with the clear intent of getting us to part with money we have no
intention of parting with to get whatever it is thats free.
But now and then, free is truly free with no strings attached. And when its
something I find useful in my life, well, thats a happy find.

My Job Chart is an ingenious website that takes the idea of teaching kids
the value of money with a job board and digitizes it while including the
concepts of sharing and saving.
Simply go to the site, open a free account then add your kids to it. Next,
choose from a list of chores to assign them, along with a deadline. For each
chore or job,
you also need to set points that your child earns upon completion.
The points become a currency system that My Job Chart intends will teach
children more about money. Children are free to save, spend or share the
points they earn. And the spend is linked to rewards like a bedtime story
or anything they want from Amazon, which you get to add. My Job Chart also

They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible.
To quote the Good Book makes me liable.
We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen,
And the 'unwed daddy,' our Senior King.
It's 'inappropriate' to teach right from wrong,
We're taught that such 'judgments' do not belong..
We can get our condoms and birth controls,
Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles...
But the Ten Commandments are not allowed,
No word of God must reach this crowd.
It's scary here I must confess,
When chaos reigns the school's a mess.
So, Lord, this silent plea I make:
Should I be shot; My soul please take!
