Article posted as of April 9 2015 by Adam Mills

Apple's <http://www.gottabemobile.com/2015/04/08/ios-8-3-update-tips/> iOS
8.3 update for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch is now available and it offers a
ton of bug fixes and enhancements to Apple's mobile devices. It also has
brought <http://www.gottabemobile.com/2015/04/09/ios-8-3-problems/> iOS 8.3
problems to owners making the jump from iOS 8.2 and below. With iOS 8.3
problems in mind, we want to outline some of the more common issues and
offer fixes to those struggling after updating.

In September, Apple released its brand new iOS 8 operating system for
iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. In the hours after the release, iPhone and iPad
users started to gripe about iOS 8.0 problems. Many of these problems were
iOS 8 related and some of them were carried over from the company's iOS 7
and iOS 6 updates.

Since that day in September, Apple's attempted to fix many of those problems
with a series of iOS 8 bug fix updates, and none bigger than the update it
released earlier this week.

In the months since the initial iOS 8 release, Apple's pushed out a grand
total of eight iOS 8 bug fix updates including its most recent update, iOS
8.3. While a lot of attention has been lavished upon the big changes to the
Emoji keyboard, iOS 8.3 also features a ton of bug fixes for linger iOS 8
problems including issues with Wi-Fi, landscape mode and more. And while iOS
8.3 is a crucial bug fixer, it comes with some faults of its own.

Apple adds many new iOS 8.3 features like the Emoji shown at the link
provided above. and dozens of fixes for iOS 8 problems.

iPhone and iPad users are
<http://www.gottabemobile.com/2015/04/09/ios-8-3-problems/> already
complaining about a number of iOS 8.3 problems. Many users have taken to
social media and Apple's Discussion Forums to complain about initial bugs
and issues. Most of these iOS 8.3 problems appear to be isolated but that
doesn't mean that they won't pick up pace in the future as more people
install Apple's new iOS 8 update.

With that in mind, we want to take a look at some of
the more popular iOS 8.3 problems that have popped up over the last 24 hours
and some of the problems that have the potential to pop up for iOS 8.3 users
in the future. With an iOS 8.4 release date still unconfirmed, iPhone and
iPad users will need to rely on third-party fixes for their iOS 8.3
problems.

1. How to Fix iOS 8.3 Installation Problems

Right off the bat, we started to hear about
<http://www.gottabemobile.com/2015/04/09/ios-8-3-problems/> installation
problems with the iOS 8.3 update. In fact, we ran into some iOS 8.3
installation problems ourselves. iOS updates often get stuck during the
installation process. Fortunately, there's an easy fix for these issues.

If the iPhone or iPad gets stuck during the iOS 8.3 installation process,
users will want to perform a reboot by holding down the power button and
home button at the same time for a few seconds until the device
restarts. This typically gets the update's juices flowing again.

If the iOS 8.3 update doesn't continue automatically, it may simply start
over. This method has worked for us, and many other users in the past, so
it's worth a shot if the iOS 8.3 installation falters.

2. How to Fix iOS 8.3 Battery Life Problems

iOS 8.3 battery life
<http://www.gottabemobile.com/2015/04/09/ios-8-3-problems/> problems sprung
up immediately after Apple's release and we continue to see and hear
complaints about bad iOS 8.3 battery life. Abnormal battery drain is a
common problem after iOS updates.

There are number of ways to try and fix iOS 8.3 battery life if it starts
going down-hill. We've PUT
<http://www.gottabemobile.com/2015/04/09/how-to-fix-bad-ios-8-3-battery-life
/> together an extensive list of fixes for bad iOS 8.3 battery life that
iPhone and iPad users will want to take a look at if and when the device
starts acting up. iOS battery life problems can occur at any time so those
who aren't experiencing them now will want to keep these fixes in mind just
in case.

Find Apps Eating Up Your Battery

The first recommendation that we always make after the arrival of a new iOS
update (like iOS 8.3) is for iPhone and iPad users to check out third-party
applications. Third-party applications have a tendency to put a huge dent
into battery life on the iPhone or iPad, regardless of what version of iOS
you're on.

If you use an application a lot, it's going to drain your device's battery.
But there are also times where bugs or issues might cause an app to go rogue
and start abnormally draining iPhone or iPad battery.

If you want to fix your iOS 8.3 battery life, you're going to want to first
want keep an eye on applications for potential problems. To do that, you'll
want to start by taking a look at the battery life usage tool that Apple
included with its iOS 8 update. To start using this tool, head to Settings
-> General -> Usage -> Battery Usage to see which apps are using up the most
battery life.

If you find an app that appears to be using too much battery life, you can
limit your use of it when away from power, stop its background activity or
remove it completely from your iPhone or iPad.

Turn on Airplane Mode When You Have Bad Coverage

In our years of using iOS, we've noticed is that poor cellular coverage is
often to blame for bad iOS 8 battery life. When your phone needs to search
hard for a signal, it runs the battery down faster, and that's something to
keep in mind when you're in spotty areas. You may need to turn on Airplane
Mode when there isn't a strong 4G or LTE signal in the area. This will kill
off your connectivity but it could save you from horrible battery drain on
iOS 8.3.

Disable iCloud Keychain

Some iPhone users claim that disabling iCloud Keychain has helped them patch
up their bad iOS 8 battery life. If you don't use iCloud Keychain on your
iPhone or iPad, it's worth disabling to see if it provides positive results.

To disable iCloud Keychain, first head to Settings -> iCloud -> Keychain ->
Toggle iCloud Keychain off. You can always turn it back on if turning it off
doesn't fix your bad iOS 8.3 battery drain.

Limit Background App Refresh

You can also try limiting background app refresh on the iPhone or iPad. This
feature updates applications in the background so that data is available
right when you open an application. Many of you don't or won't need this
feature so it's worth investigating to see if it restores the battery life
on your iOS 8.3 powered device.

If you don't want to turn it off completely, you can also find apps that use
it too much and turn it off for them one by one to see if that solves your
bad iOS 8.3 battery life problems. This way, you can keep the apps that
aren't using up a ton of charge. It's a tedious process though it's had a
positive effect on our iPhones and iPads in the past.

To get started, go to Settings -> General -> Background App Refresh -> Turn
it off for each app that is using too much power. It's going to take some
time but it's worth trying if your device takes a hit after the move to iOS
8.3.

Stop Using Auto Brightness

Both the iPhone and iPad include sensors that change the screen brightness
based on the light in your current environment. Often times, the sensors
will boost your screen brightness to unnecessary levels and this can
potentially harm your battery life. If you are willing to change the
brightness levels manually, and you probably are if your battery drain is
bad, we recommend toggling this feature off to see if it helps the battery.

To shut Auto Brightness off, go to Settings -> Display & Brightness ->
Auto-Brightness -> Off. Once it's off, you'll be able to manually adjust the
brightness of your screen to help keep battery drain to a minimum.

Remember, you can always turn brightness up or down on your own when you
need it using the Control Center. For those that aren't familiar, Control
Center is the feature that pops up when you swipe up from the bottom of the
screen on iPhone or iPad.

Restart Your iPhone or iPad

If you start noticing weird battery drain after iOS 8.3 or if your device
starts getting really hot, you should try performing a reset to see if that
returns things to normal. Most of you know how to restart an iPhone or iPad
but we'll remind you. Hold down the power button, swipe to turn it off, and
then hold the power button down to turn it back on.

You can also try resetting the iPhone or iPad by holding the home button and
the power button for about 10 seconds. This will not remove any of your data
and could help restore your device to form.

Reset All Settings

The next set of fixes are steps to take if you're encountering major battery
life issues after installing Apple's new iOS 8.3 update. If you see the
usage and standby numbers listed as the same when you look at iOS 8.3
battery usage in Settings, these are the steps that you're probably going to
want to take in an effort to get a grip on your battery.

The first step to take is a quick reset to your settings. Go to Settings ->
General -> Reset -> Reset All Settings and then enter your passcode when
prompted.

This will take five minutes or so to complete and will put all of your
settings back to default. This will not remove any data or photos from your
iPhone and iPad. This has worked for us in the past and it's the first step
to take if you're seeing major battery drain after iOS 8.3.

Restore the iOS 8.3 Update

If that doesn't work, you should try to install the iOS 8.3 update again
using a restore. You'll need to do this on your computer with iTunes
installed. Warning, this will wipe your phone or tablet completely so think
of this as a last ditch effort.

eviews-iPhone-5-3.jpg> Gazelle Certified Reviews - iPhone 5 - 3

You can try restoring from your backup after the update, but if the problem
returns, you will want to do this again without restoring from backup.
Here's how to do this.

1. Plug in and backup to the computer or to iCloud.

2. Turn off Find My iPhone - Settings -> iCloud -> Find my iPhone -> Off.

3. In iTunes Click Restore.

4. Follow the prompts and the iPhone will reinstall iOS 8.3 from scratch.

5. When it completes click Restore from Backup to put your information back
on the iPhone or Choose to set up as a new iPhone.

This process takes awhile to complete. Expect to spend 20 to 45 minutes for
this process, and maybe longer if you restore from backup. It's going to
vary from device to device, person to person, depending on how you have your
device set up.

Downgrade to iOS 8.2

For a limited time, you can move back to iOS 8.2. If you were getting good
battery life on iOS 8.2, this might be a step to consider. We've

put together a step-by-step guide

found at the link below.

For a limited time, you can move back to iOS 8.2. If you were getting good
battery life on iOS 8.2, this might be a step to consider. We've
<http://www.gottabemobile.com/2015/04/08/how-to-downgrade-to-ios-8-2-from-io
s-8-3/> put together a step-by-step guide that will outline just how you can
make this happen.

Apple will, at some point, close this up so if you want to make this move,
you're going to have to make it soon. It's impossible to predict when Apple
will plug up the downgrade though we typically see it happen around the two
week mark.

Genius Bar/Replacement

If none of these fixes work, you should make an appointment with Apple and
get an Apple Genius to look at your phone or tablet. Back up your iPhone or
iPad before you go and simply ask them if your battery life is bad. They can
test this in store and if you're under warranty, they will replace the
device. There is a one year warranty by default and two years with
AppleCare+.

3. How to Fix Missing Password Settings

The iOS 8.3 update brings some new features to the table including a way to
download free apps from the App Store without needing to punch in a password
or use Touch ID. We weren't able to find the feature in our settings
yesterday. Fortunately, there is a simple fix that will users to gain access
to this small but important iOS 8.3 feature.

To get the Missing Password settings feature to appear, you'll first need to
go to Settings and then Touch ID & Passcode. From there, flip the iTunes &
App Store option toggle off. Once this is done, head into your Settings then
into iTunes & App Store. Right below Apple ID will be a feature called
Password Settings. This will allow users to toggle the "Require Password"
feature off for free app downloads.

4. How to Fix iOS 8.3 Wi-Fi Problems

iOS 8.3 comes with a number of fixes for Wi-Fi problems but
<http://www.gottabemobile.com/2015/04/09/ios-8-3-problems/> we've still seen
some complaints about broken Wi-Fi connectivity. Wi-Fi issues have plagued
many users for years and a single thread on Apple's discussion forums has
received well <https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6546549> over 600,000
views since September's iOS 8.0 release.

There are no guaranteed fixes for Wi-Fi issues though there are some things
that iOS 8.3 users can try should connectivity start going south. These
fixes have been passed down from Apple's iOS 6, iOS 7 and older iOS 8
updates and they've worked for many iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users
dealing with connectivity problems.

First, iPhone and iPad users can try resetting the device's network
settings. This is an extremely easy process though it could take a couple of
minutes to complete. Those experiencing Wi-Fi issues will want to set aside
some time to ensure that the process goes as smoothly as possible. To do
this, open up the iPhone, iPad or iPod touch and head to Settings > General

Reset > Reset Network Settings.

Users will need the passcode and a few minutes of time because the phone or
tablet is going to reboot itself after the process completes. Users will
also want to track down commonly used Wi-Fi passwords because this process
is going to erase stored Wi-Fi passwords.

If that fix doesn't work,
<http://www.gottabemobile.com/2014/09/24/how-to-fix-ios-8-wi-fi-problems/>
take a look at some of these other potential Wi-Fi fixes.

Found at the link below.

http://www.gottabemobile.com/2014/09/24/how-to-fix-ios-8-wi-fi-problems/

We also recommend rebooting your router and or modem to see if that
dislodges the problem. It's also worth updating the router's firmware. This
process is going to differ based on make and model so users will need to
find the manual or consult the appropriate company's website.

5. How to Fix iOS 8.3 Cellular Data Problems

We haven't seen a ton of <https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6876568>
complaints about cellular data issues but they are among the most common iOS
8 problems and they're bound to impact some iPhone and iPad users in the
days, weeks and months after the iOS 8.3 release.

iPhone and iPad users experiencing iOS 8.3 cellular data problems should
first try restarting the device in question. This has worked for us in the
past. If that simple fix doesn't work, try toggling cellular data on and
off. This also has also worked for many people before. To do that, Cellular
Cellular Data > Toggle Off. It's a quick process and one that could return
things to normal assuming connectivity isn't down in the area.

If none of that works, try flipping Airplane Mode on, waiting 30 seconds,
and then flipping it off. This, like the other fixes, has worked to
alleviate cellular data problems in the past. If nothing works, contact
Apple or the service provider.

6. How to Fix iOS 8.3 Bluetooth Problems

Bluetooth issues are among the most common iOS problems and we've already
seen some iPhone and iPad users
<http://www.gottabemobile.com/2015/04/09/ios-8-3-problems/> complain about
busted Bluetooth after making the move to iOS 8.3.

iPhone users have singled out iOS' "Reset All Settings" option as a
potential fix for Bluetooth issues. It hasn't worked for everyone but there
are a ton of people that are claiming success after trying it on their
iPhone. It could also work for the iPad and iPod touch.

To "Reset All Settings" on the iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, open up the
device and head to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings. This is
going to take a bit of time and users will lose all saved settings but the
pay off is that it seems to fix at least some Bluetooth problems.

We also recommend resetting Bluetooth in the car if a device is failing to
pair with the connection in the car. iPhone and iPad users will need to
consult the car manual to do this as the process is going to vary based on
make and model. Once Bluetooth is reset, try reconnecting the device to the
car.

7. How to Fix iOS 8.3 App Issues

In the aftermath of the iOS 8.3 release,
<http://www.gottabemobile.com/2015/04/09/ios-8-3-problems/> we've begun to
hear and see complaints about app performance. This is a common occurrence
after a major iOS update like iOS 8.3.

To fix app problems, make sure applications on the iPhone or iPad are
updated. Bug fixes and app updates with support for iOS 8 have been
trickling out since launch.

iPhone and iPad users who are forgetful or lazy will want to turn on
automatic App Store updates because it will keep apps automatically behind
the scenes. Auto updates will ensure that they are always on the latest
version with the latest bug fixes. To do that, head into Settings > iTunes &
App Store > Toggle Updates on.

If that doesn't work, try reinstalling the application. This has worked for
some users in the past. If the app is still acting up, iOS 8.3 users will
want to contact the developer of the application and relay the issues.
Bringing these bugs to light could prompt developers to start paying
attention and actively fix the bug in an upcoming update.

8. How to Improve iOS 8.3 Performance

We've noticed some performance issues on the iPhone 5 and iPad Air and we're
seeing iPhone and iPad users on other devices complain about lag, freezing
and other problems.

When Apple's iOS 8.0 update first came out, we
<http://www.gottabemobile.com/2014/10/01/how-to-get-better-iphone-4s-perform
ance-on-ios-8/> outlined a number of different strategies including reducing
animations and pretty effects, resetting settings, or restoring back to
factory settings.

The complete article can be found At the link below.

http://www.gottabemobile.com/2014/10/01/how-to-get-better-iphone-4s-performa
nce-on-ios-8/

These fixes still apply today, months after the iOS 8 update's release. They
may not work for everyone but they are certainly worth a shot if performance
drags after iOS 8.3 arrives.

9. How to Fix iOS 8.2 Messages Problems

We've also started to see complaints about issues with the Messages app.
These are common as well, particularly right after the release of a major
iOS update.

If Messages is acting up, the first thing to try is toggling it on off and
on. If that doesn't work, try rebooting the phone or tablet. If neither of
those work, it's time to reset the device's network settings.

To do that, head into Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
The iPad or iPhone will reboot, and while the stored Wi-Fi networks will be
lost, reentering a Wi-Fi password is a small price to pay for working
Messages.

10. How to Fix iOS 8.3 Problems If Nothing Else Works

How to Fix iOS 8.3 Problems If Nothing Else Works

If these fixes for iOS 8.3 problems don't work, we have a few
recommendations. Users can
<http://www.gottabemobile.com/2015/04/08/how-to-downgrade-to-ios-8-2-from-io
s-8-3/> currently downgrade to iOS 8.2 to see if that helps. The downgrade
process won't last forever and Apple will eventually plug it up. It usually
takes a couple of weeks though.

If that doesn't work, take the iPhone or iPad to a Genius Bar at the local
Apple Store. They can help diagnose the problem and potentially offer a new
device if still under warranty.

Those that can't or don't want to take the device to the Apple Store will
want to consider performing a factory reset. Factory resets will wipe the
device clean, so it's an option that we recommend only to those that can't
find a temporary or permanent fix.

To do that, choose Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and
Settings. Again, this will wipe everything from the iPhone or iPad, so make
a back up before doing this. Again, setting all of this up will be very time
consuming, but it may be the fastest way to fix bad iOS 8.3 problems on the
iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.

6. Plug in and backup to the computer or to iCloud.

7. Turn off Find My iPhone - Settings -> iCloud -> Find my iPhone -> Off.

8. In iTunes Click Restore.

9. Follow the prompts and the iPhone will reinstall iOS 8.3 from scratch.

10. When it completes click Restore from Backup to put your
information back on the iPhone or Choose to set up as a new iPhone.

If that fix doesn't work,
<http://www.gottabemobile.com/2014/09/24/how-to-fix-ios-8-wi-fi-problems/>
take a look at some of these other potential Wi-Fi fixes.

Again, setting all of this up will be very time
consuming, but it may be the fastest way to fix bad iOS 8.3 problems on the
iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.

away; behold, all things have become new."
