At this time of night, here's the simple explanation.

Media Edition is designed to hook in to your TV, Video,
Hi-Fi and general home entertainment systems without too
much extra effort.

XP Home can do this to a large extent, but with much more
work.

XP Professional is for business use, or for people who run
networks who are paranoid about security.
