Hello Jon and everyone

I too am extremely happy with the Goodman's speaking freeview box. Like you, i agree that is very basic, but for my purpose in having it connected to a small TV in my bedroom, it's perfect for my needs. If I have one slight gripe though, I wish there was a longer time before the unit goes into standby. It seems that it goes off after about three and a half to four hours when a more realistic time frame would be more like eight hours. I was watching the news of the rescue of the Chilian Miners this morning and it was rather odd to hear after a short amount of time that my unit would go into standby due to a long period of inactivity. Something like the rescue of the chillian miners is something you are glued to and are unlikely to want to change channels during such an momentous and historic event just to keep the box happy.

All the best

Martin

Hi everybody, I got a Smart View box yesterday. I'm pretty impressed with it. Ok, it's basic, slow to speak channel selections, but given the extra it's got to do it's pretty good. It'd be good if they worked on the speech a bit though. Some programme titles require serious interpretation. I notice there isn't an update software setting on it, just a setting to update channels. If they do produce updated firmware for it how would it be loaded? Another thing conspicuous by its absence is an audio menu. On a standard box there is, so why not this one? I appreciate it isn't a top of the line box, but given who the box is aimed at it should have one.
Having said that I'm pleased I bought it.
I also bought a penfriend, but I haven't investigated it yet.
                   John.
