Further on this thread. I went to my local association yesterday and saw
several stand alone scanners. I really liked the Eye-Pall plus priced at
£1,600
it uses a camera to take a photo before it reads the result to you.

Cheers

Hello Ron and all,

Almost agreeing with Mark, I have the CanoScan LiDE 100, similarly powered from
my laptop. It is roughly the size of a 17 inch laptop, and just as thin. Worked
hard for about 18 months or more. No real problems, but as you know, the luck
of
the draw on individual chunks of hardware is rather random.

Paul Benson.

Ron,

I'd recommend the CanoScan LiDE 60. This scanner has no power cable...its
powered from the PC when plugged into the USB port. I've had mine for about six
years now.

Hello Folks can anyone suggest a stand alone scanner. Asking for a friend.

  Cheers
