[access-uk] ripping cds

Hi List,
Quite recently after ripping a cd to my hard drive, I hear skipping on
some tracks during playback. When I play the same disk on my cd player
on my hi-fi there is no skipping.
Does anybody know why this happens?
Is there such a thing as a cleaner for the laser on the cd drive on my pc?
