Actually, a few years back, we got a machine custom-built, and for whatever reason only known to the guy who built it, we ended up with drive D as the main one. Well, when Ian came to install JAWS, it wouldn't have any of it, so we had to get the guy back pretty quickly to format the machine again to allow us to have drive C as the primary.
I don't know if this is the case with JAWS or any other programs now, but that was our experience, so when the question was posted, we both said: "Oh dear" at the same time.
But I do hope it isn't as drastic as having to format it again though. Jackie Email: cairnsplace@xxxxxxx Skype Name: Cairnsplace----- Original Message ----- From: "James Scholes" <jamesscholes@xxxxxxx>

I know which type of programs you mean, but no, programs don't look for the C drive, they look for the partition or drive that actively hosts the copy of windows that the program is being run from. So, if I had 2 copies of windows, 1 on drive b and 1 on drive c, I could run a program from drive b and it would install to drive b, and the same thing with drive c.-------------------------------------------------- From: "Steve Nutt" <steve@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Sunday, February 17, 2008 6:58 PM To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: [access-uk] Re: question about the system's drive letterHi Chris, Actually, this is going to be a real problem, because some older programslook specifically for the C: drive. I think the only answer is to reformat, and pay more attention to the drive lettering <Smile>. By "active primary" I mean thatwhen you turn on your computer, it tries to boot from the first availablepartition, and of course if there's nothing on there, or nothing to indicatethat an operating system exists, then it'll just stop dead and probablydisplay an error message. Only sighted assistance could get you out of thistrouble. Hope that helps. Therefore windows is now installed on D and my backup drive became my C drive. I would like to know whether or not this is a major problem and, if this is, is there a way to change my system's drive back to C without having to re-install windows all over again? I must say that so far, everything is working perfectly but some people tell me that I could have problems and others say I should not worry about it. Feedback would be greatly appreciated.
