Hi.
What JAWS version are you using? JAWS 10 and earlier builds of JAWS 11 frequently had this problem. Later builds and the JAWS 12 beta doesn't have this problem anymore as far as I am concerned. Rather than repairing your existing installation, try updating to the latest build through either check for updates or by downloading the full package from the Freedom Scientific website. As for the defragmenter, press alt+u to focus to the list of drives and their status. There is no actual progress bar in the Windows 7 Disk Defragmenter.
