I'd like to add to this thread, though not a JAWS user, if I were, I wouldn't
see the point in the latest upgrade, but then as has been said, the income
needs to come in continually to maintain software development . SMA's are
therefore encouraged to keep up the revenue flow. Certainly I know of
situations where they have got several versions behind and the upgrade price is
not so far off what they would pay for the latest full version! All well and
fine if ATW foots the bill, but delays there can mean the next version will be
upon you before they've done with their bureaucratic thing.

Sure the manuals in DAISY format will be welcomed as well as all the added-in
tutorials, but couldn't these be a paid-for add in? The clipboard thingy
leaves me saying why? Aren't there plenty of clipboard exstenders out there
already? Quite a few being used by some on this list, I think.

It also strikes me that script writers would surely have to supply a number of
versions of their scripts if they are going to sell them to people who will
not, or cannot keep up. Dare say that puts up the cost of scripts a bit when
several must be compiled to meet such situations.

Just might be that total cost of ownership, not to mention total stress and
hassle of upgrading could make some look elswhere, and thank goodness there is
competition!

Hi,

The thing is now at work I am on 5.1. When Longhorn or whatever comes out in a
few years, I would pay more for upgrading to the latest version at that time
then if I had kept up with the upgrades, so the more upgrades they put out in
this period the more money they will make when they get an upgrade a lot of
users will have to jump up to. I really don't see why they need to continually
put out new software - I am quite happy with the version I already have.

Thanks.
Andrew.

I'm happy with 5.1 and don't intend up-grading for a long time. If Bill
Gates comes up with a version of Windows that is radically better than XP
pro, then I might consider a mortgage to pay for it and an up-grade in Jaws.
To be frank, I can't afford the cost of an upgrade without a very good
reason and there doesn't seem to be one in version 6 or 7.

Haven't seen anyone commenting on this thread - could it be that we no
longer care very much about new jfw versions because they come so thick
and fast that each on it's own contains little worth talking about?

quick nav keys for word sounds handy particularly when reading large
documents but would we really remember more new keystrokes.
improved performance in adobe acrobat sounds like the single thing that
might make a difference to me day to day.
access to firefox is interesting on the face of it but will it make much
difference.
a nod to the competition with the version that can be run from a
pen-drive although interestingly at no extra cost which might have minor
benefits for a few although given that the authorization still has to
exist on each hoste machine suspect the usefulness is quite limited.
