All,

Sorry for cross posting this but I can't remember which list I saw the post
regarding this particular problem with reading messages in outlook express
under XP service pack 2.

someone said that after upgrading to SP2, after opening a message, they
could only read them by tabbing and then using read all or the arrow keys to
read the message.

I had this on two machines and found the following:

When opening the message instead of reading it automatically like it used to
I'd get silence. the focus was on the title bar at the top of the screen.
Tabbing regained focus on the content of the message but I too had to use
the read all command or the cursor keys to read it.

I also found that to delete a message I had to return to the inbox and
delete it there as the delete key didn't work while in the open message. The
control+D keystroke did though.

After some time trying to work out why this was happening, I found the
problem and the solution is as follows.

while in the inbox, press alt+t for tools and arrow up once to options.

In options, press shift+tab once, jaws says general. right arrow to the read
tab.

press the tab key until you hear the option that says "read all messages as
plain text" if it's checked, uncheck it and go to OK and press enter.

This fixed the problem on both of my affected machines and all is now back
to normal.

Hope this helps whoever it was that had this problem.
