George,

Yes, I have two drives the same, both Sony DVD rw's. Any DVD, or other disk,
whether a data disk or music/video spins up quickly, but takes up to 5 minutes
before the Autoplay screen appears. I tried Googling it, but seen that some
other people had similar problems, but it was an error within Win 7, but as
mine came pre installed, I don't know if a re-install of Win 7 (full version)
would work.

Could it be a bios problem?

Regards,

Mike

  Mike,

I'm trying to get a handle on when and when things are being delayed.

Approximately how long does it take before you hear the DVD spinning? If you
don't hear it in say 15 - 20 seconds, I'd suspect the DVD drive or the media.

Do I take it it's the same for all DVDs? If you've tried 5 or 6 then it's
unlikely to be media. And I presume it's a fairly new drive?

  George.

  George,

  Thanks, I don't understand it, I have a 3.4Ghz Quad running Windows 7 home
with 4 Gb of ram and it is a Sony DVD rw, yet it is so slow.

  Any suggestions?

  Regards,

  Mike

    Hi Mike,

From closing the DVD drawer to seeing the initial screen from the DVD
itself took 30 seconds exactly. And I was running Outlook 2003 and Solitaire
at the same time. FWIW, my 64 bit Windows 7 Professional system has 3GB RAM,
and a 2.4 Ghz Intel Quad Processor. It's Windows Experience Index rating is
5.8.

    George.

    Hello,

If someone has Windows 7 64bit, can they please try inserting a DVD movie
and let me know what the seek time is before autoplay comes on.

Mine is running about 5 minutes or so before Autoplay appears.

    Many thanks,

    Mike
