I think you need to go into "taskbar and start menu" options in the "Control panel". When there hit the "Customize" button and then type letter R until you get to "recent items" and check that. OK the dialogue and back out. Assuming you are using the Windows 7 default start menu you should then be able to find "Recent items". Regards.
