Chris, I've used Ustream for about 2 years now. It's very cool. I even played about with my own Web Cam account on there towards the start of this year. I've never even looked at it's Web Chat though to be honest. That's a big star you'll be watching and often as not the text chat on such events just streams incredibly quickly. Do they have an IRC channel? If so you could try the MIRC IRC client that works well with JAWS/Window Eyes and I'd imagine NVDA to participate in chat.
