Hello Andy and everyone I have now had time to use my Kindle some more and I am quite impressed with it. I think the voice guide and text to speech is quite acceptable to listen to at the standard speed, but as with many of these new products, there is always some room for improvement. The keyboard takes a little getting used to, but once you get to know the layout, it is quite easy to use. I haven't done much more than just lay back and listen to the book, but the main drawbacks as I have found at the moment are starting with the major ones is the internet browser isn't accessible with voice guidance which is a problem if you travel a lot and aren't always near a computer to order a book. If you have magazine and newspaper subscriptions however then they get automatically downloaded to the Kindle. The other drawback is you need sighted assistance to activate voice guidance. I think Amazon could quite easily rectify this in a future firmware upgrade by having a short cut to voice guidance by doing something like having a voice prompt when holding the power/ wake button across for lets say about five or six seconds at which a message could sound saying something like to use voice guidance press the centre of the navigation button to activate or something similar. Well, that's about all I can tell you for now, but if I find anything else in the meantime, then I will let the list know. Can you also give us some feedback on your findings from using it? How accessible have you found it to be and what if anything are the drawbacks. I think they recommend the recipient of the Kindle set up there own account so they can use it through there own individual account so the buyer of the kindle need not get a wapping bill at the end of the month if they are a real book worm. Hope this helps Martin From: Martin Houghton Sent: Saturday, October 09, 2010 8:06 AM To: access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [access-uk] Re: The Amazon Kindle Hi Andy and everyone Just to let you and everyone know, I am receiving this message as blank. I have received a few like this lately. Not sure why this is, but I thought that I would let everyone know. From what I have read, the Kindle is identified from the buyer's account details with Amazon, surely this doesn't mean I'd have to buy the books on the other person's behalf? Andy
