Hi Ian,

There are two voices from Loquendo for the UK, Simon and Elizabeth. Which
do you use?

All the best

Hi Adrian=20

They've been very good to deal with as well. Will be interested to know =
what people think of the voice used for the UK speech engine. =20

Hi Adrian=3D3D20

I've just had a chat wih the project co-ordinator and the terms are as
follows: =3D3D20

'The terms of the agreement is that the TTS engine can be used for =3D3D
personal, non-commercial purposes. Hence, you are not allowed to use it to
produce audio files for others, to use the audio files in a commercial
context, to =3D3D make them accessible to others via a web = site or
similar. Apart from that =3D3D there are no limitations. The = agreement =3D
is open-ended in the sense that it does =3D3D not expire. We can run =
Loquendo on all our Agents up to a maximum of 10'.=3D3D20

=3D3DA0This is fully taking into account the copyright regulations in = each
=3D =3D3D of the partner countries. The deal was negotiated centrally and
as long as we stipulate this in return messages (with reference to the
copyright act =3D3D and relevant section) then this is okay. =3D3D20

This is a European funded project. =3D3D20

Hope this clarifies this a little bit more. =3D3D20

Many thanks=3D3D20

Hi Ian - sounds interesting, would be interested to know more about which
tts engine you are using as we occasionally get approached by a variety of
outfits looking to support products or practitioners in this way but can't
advocate a low or no cost way of doing so at present which allows them to
freely share copies of audio versions.

Hi Adrian=3D3D3D3D20

Yes, I agree. =3D3D3D3D20

To give a little background, this system was originally developed in = =3D3D
=3D3D3D3D Denmark with free text to speech software available to = everybody
on the net. As =3D3D3D3D part of the project consortium, Text to speech
engines =3D3D have been bought in =3D3D3D3D from Lacuendo in Italy to =
serve multiple languages. =3D3D =3D3D3D =3D3D3D3D20

National copyright laws apply; hence we need to put a rider in the =3D
=3D3D3D3D return E-mail of each result stating the responsibilities of the
user and also =3D3D3D3D the copyright regulations covered. =3D3D3D3D20

Hope this clarifies the position a little more, but please feel free to
=3D3D3D3D get back to me if there are any more questions. =3D3D3D3D20

Cheers=3D3D3D3D20

Ian - interesting legal implications of such a service because of the
licence for the voice you use. The usual speech synth licence which allows
you to use it for real time work on your own system does not cover giving
away copies of the use of that voice. If you want to share materials
recorded with a given tts voice then you need to own a licence for that
voice which gives permition to do so.

I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has explored this route, bought
the licence or tried to do so as not all tts resellers seem to approach it
in the same way, make the system transparent.

Hi=3D3D3D3D3D20
=3D3D3D3D3D20

I've already mentioned this on another list, but I'm looking for people who
would be willing to trial this out for me. =3D3D3D3D3D20

=3D3D3D3D3D20

Would anybody like to trial out a text to speech and potentially a text to
Braille E-mail conversion programme? Essentially, you would attach a
document to an E-mail and receive the results back in minutes as an MP3
file.
Some people have shown interest in piloting this already, but I am on the
look out for many more. =3D3D3D3D3D20

=3D3D3D3D3D20

If you are interested, please feel free to E-mail me at the address below
and I'll send you further information on the system, how to register and
then how to use and test it.=3D3D3D3D3D20
