  Andy,

My apologies, don't think my arithmetic brain was in gear yesterday. It's
currently 2 dollars to the pound, so you were closer than I was. Thanks.

  Regards,
  Léonie.

    Vicky,

For classic books like this, it's always worth checking out Audio Books
4 Free. They've usually got the type of thing you're after and do indeed have
Frankenstein.

Despite the title of the website, there are multiple options for
downloading books. You can get a relatively low quality copy for free, but if
you select the most expensive options available for Frankenstein, you're
looking at about $9, or £3.50 approx. in UK terms. It's really worth going for
this option if it's feasible, as your son won't be distracted by the quality of
    the recording.

    HTH,
    Léonie.

How soon does he need to have it? If he has a few weeks you might be able
to get a copy read for the purpose from them, if they do not already have a
copy in stock, in which case they could send it out to him almost immediately.
I understand that they do supply many course Texts for Students etc.
I do not have their phone number to hand, but if you were to ring Customer
Services they would certainly put you through to the Transcription service.
Customer Services are on 08457 023153
    Hope this helps
