You can go buy a DVD writer for about £70 now and get DVDs for it that store 
up to 4GB now and no inbuilt encryption unless you are copying DVD films. 
Not sure on grounds of capacity it has much chance.  There doesn't seem to 
be a selling point to the new format.

Absolutely sure some here will know about htisthis, but I was
surprised last night when trawling the net for something else and
came across announcements regarding the introduction by Sony of
1.3Gb  CDs.

I've long wanted something like this.  Seems a new CD writer is
needed for this, as well as the discs themselves which will carry
some copy prohiting scheme for Copyright material.
