Damon,

"You have lifted the remote control"
"Switching television on!"
"volume is set to 10"
"You are currently watching the Sky channel one, zero, one, this is BBC, one. Now showing is the national and regional news and weather forecast; start time 22:00 end time 22:40. Following this programme is then.......... oops, have I babbled all over it?"

Out of the nearly 2 million blind individuals, how many suffer mental stress due to the lack of understanding and sheer frustration of inaccessible accessible equipment?

Have a nice day!

Mike

I love the use of the word 'some' in the following sentence from Sky's website: "For the first time Sky customers will be able to hear some of
the on screen text"

They could quite easily have used the phrase "a bit of text" or "less text than the rest of our customers experience for less money" in place
of the word 'some' here.

I think this is a crying shame. Sky have gone to what I'm sure is a big effort to get this home install program going. But why would I want a gizmo that tells me I've hit the rewind button after I've hit the rewind button? Or says the word 'play' all over the beginning of the program I'm about to watch. But seemingly there will be little point in me being told it's a play button if I can't play anything off the sky+ menu due
to its continued inaccessibility anyway.

But I'm still not convinced by what I've read even on the website due to the bad communication to date. I still wouldn't be at all surprised if
it was able to read the EPG.

Sighties would be starting a Facebook group about this round about now.

hi mike,

NO. ON the sky accessibility site

http://accessibility.sky.com/news/sky-talker

says

For the first time Sky customers will be able to hear some of the on screen text. It will vocalise the search and scan banner, programme synopsis information and Sky+ functionality such as play, pause and rewind - making navigation easier and quicker for blind and partially
sighted customers.
Almost 2 million people in the UK have sight problems, around 100 people every day begin to lose their sight and the number of people with sight
problems is predicted to double by 2050.
Sky Talker will integrate seamlessly with the Sky+ and Sky Digi boxes so customers can continue to use their existing service without having to
learn a new User Interface.
Sky Talker will be compatible with Sky+HD boxes, from summer 2011.
