Hi. 
 
Project Canvas is the working name for the next generation of Freeview,
likely to be out this time next year. It builds a video on demand
platform on top of your existing digital terrestrial TV through an
aerial. It's all in the same box. So you will be able to watch
television shows on demand and not just when they appear on the TV
channels, similar to iPlayer. 
 
The specifications for canvas include APIs and ways of making things
accessible: colour contrast etc. Whether set-top box manufacturers
choose to exploit this functionality is another thing. Lets hope they
do. Talking is most likely to happen via another device such as a mobile
phone with internet access.
