Barry, that all sounds very scary, but I will give it a go if the problems
persist.

Now this might sound a little mad and perhaps it is just one of those strange
coincidences, but I haven't had a program not responding or windows not
shutting down since last Monday. It's Monday morning now and guess what just
happened? Yes, I got a program not responding and my PC won't shut down!

Perhaps my computer just doesn't like Mondays.

  Hi Barbra,

OK one other thing you can do is to check the stability of your system files
using, Scanow sfc.exe

This will check the system files for integrity and replace as needed.

You'll need to have your XP disc at hand.

  1. Go to start/run.

  2. Type sfc /scannow

This command will immediately initiate the Windows File Protection service
to scan all protected files and verify their integrity, replacing any files
with which it finds a problem.

Let me know what it comes back with.

Barry, it happens with different programs. My Documents, My printer
software, Outlook Express now and then, etc. It's never happened with IE,
iTunes, MS Word and some other programs. I would only do a reload of Windows as
a last resort.
