Thanks Pete I'll take a look. I've seen quite a few with manual knobs, but
this sounds interesting.

it is not a microwave with dials, but take a look at the:
Russell Hobbs RHEM2301B 23L Easi Flatbed Digital 800w Solo Microwave i
replaced my cobolt talking microwave with this one recently and it is really
good.
it's a flat bed microwave so has no turn table which actually givves you
more even cooking because the waves are coming from beneath the food instead
of coming from the side and it has only 4 buttons, microwave, defrost,
pause/stop, and start.
  each press of the buttons add 30 seconds to the cooking times and it beeps
with each press.
you can hold down the buttons to add time rapidly but obviously you need
enough sight to see the display to use it this way.
i got it from amazon for £129, but i just had a look and it has gone down
