Damon, I've used an Iphone for an afternoon, and I reckon that you could probably get quite quick with the touch sensitive keyboard. I still wouldn't want one though!

Hi Steve and others.I've got to admit I don't quite understand why someone with no sight would give up a physical keyboard in favour of a touch screen. I've not played with one yet but I can't see how texting or interacting can be at the same speed or accuracy as with a numberpad you can actually feel.I'm the biggest mobile internet user. I'm still holding on to my Nokia N82 because I love the keys which enable me to text extremely fast as they are very distinct from each other being narrow rice grain keys as I understand they're called.I've got the BBC's weather site as a favourite on my phone. So, by way of example, I'd be interested to know how the aforementioned weather app on the iTouch or iPhone could be any better than just going to a web page I've got bookmarked?I'd love to be able to make the email on my Nokia N82 work. It's eluded me so far but I gather this is a slightly more helpful feature on the iPhone ... but when it comes to actually composing an email I imagine it must take a long time with much backspacing as incorrect characters are hit.Totally admit to having no experience of touch screens but so far I can't see any logic to going out of my way to try one, even. Feedback helpful.Sites I regularly visit on my regular mobile phone with talks are:The Guardian, The Independent, The Times, The Telegraph, The Mirror, BBC News, BBC Weather, New York Times, Washington Post, The Daily Mash, The Onion, Facebook, Twitter, bright kite, Amazon, eBay, mashable, National Rail Enquiries, Google, Bing, Wikipedia Mobile, YouTube, and others.Out of all the above, I think that an accessible App for Twitter would enhance the experience because Twitter's mobile site isn't all that good. But I can't see how, for instance, the new app from The Guardian will enable me to read it better - especially when one of the key features is better placed advertising....Damon----- Original Message ----- From: "Steve Hyde-Dryden" <csdryden@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Wednesday, December 30, 2009 9:33 AM Subject: [access-uk] Re: Ipod Touch! and MacsHi Hussein,Thankks for your response. Actually, I have no useful vision in terms of using the touchpad on the Ipod Touch. All I can see is if the screen is lit up smiles. I'm not sure that the overall interface is as practical as the music players on the simbian phones but if you are used to an ipod, I expect it will be the same. I think the biggest difference for me is how much more than a music player it really is. One of the best aps on it i found was the weather for your city. So long as you connect up to your local wi fi then you can put in your city and through yahoo weather, a very quick, sucsinct report for the next 6 days comes up for you. It's awesome. I've had a quick play on safari and found that a little cumbersome but usable. More practice will improve usability. I think because you have to move through in series the different buttons and options, that's what takes up time and that's why it's more frustrating. I think though the sound quality is better though. Certainly much louder and better on a train. I use some slightly more expensive headphones buy audio technica which cost around £129 but the quality is awesome!I haven't gotten onto the video yet but have a number of AVI films on my hard drive which i'd like to export to the ipod. Have you listened to the podcasts on blindcooltech? they describe in detail how to navigate round the screen. It's unique and you do not totally have to rely on the actual whereabouts of a button on the screen. Swipe left or right to move through the elements and double click anywhere on the screen to activate it.As to whether you should have one to replace an existing player? Hell yeah why not. it's a great toy and so much more than a normal mp3 player. It's actually got me thinking now of trying out an I phone! hahahaBest regards. You're the first VI person I've come across using theTouch and I'd be fascinated at just how much of the functionality of thedevice you are able to use whilst remaining with the stock firmware. If you don't mind my prying, but you must have some residual sight to handle the touch interface? Would you say this is worth considering for others needing to look for a new media player (for example, if my iPod Video ever kicks thebucket) or would it be too difficult to handle? Now for your questions. For video conversion I use AVS Video Converter. Itis a paid for solution but offers a wide range of presets you can choosefrom, including for iPods. It's also accessible with my Supernova screenreader, or easy to see if you are using magnification. No doubt someone will offer a free solution as I'm sure I've heard of one myself, but the name escapes me right now. Yes, the new 32 GB Ipod Touch. I've listened to a couple of podcasts re this and have got to grips pretty well with it's function and how to get around it. I have a couple of questions however. I know there is a more specialised list which T and T run but wondered if there were many on the list? Also, does anyonehave the sub details? Now for my questions:1 What is the easiest way to get .avi files onto the ipod? I believe they need to be converted first, how do people find the accessibility of theseconversion tools? Also, where can I get the most accessible one from? When I go into the music section of the front screen, is there a way toeasily switch between artis, album and song views? How easy is it to set upplay lists?Anyone got any suggestions for really cool aps which are free? Also though, any paid ones which, again, are accessible?I am pretty knocked out at how easy the touch screen is to manipulate. As an additional question, how accessible are apple mac computers in general?presumably, there is more facilities in the full blown voice over ap? Ihear it is akin to window eyes? So, does that mean you can get the list oflinks etc in safari? Are there any more tutorials etc for the touch? And my final question, Howsimilar is it to the I-phone? Best wishes.
