Hello,

Apologies to those of you receiving this twice on different lists. I'm
hoping someone may be able to offer some advice from a different
perspective.

Before formatting and upgrading my desktop to Windows 7 last weekend, I
created a migration file using Vista's Easy Transfer Wizard. I then moved
the resulting file onto my Freecom external hard drive. I know the move
operation was at least partially successful, as the folder which contained
the file (also created by the wizard) was copied over, but there are no
visible files in it. Also, I'd swear that the free space on the external
hard drive went down significantly, roughly corresponding to the size of the
file.

My rotten luck that I didn't double check the drive before I formatted the
desktop. After all was done, I can't find the file now. I've used
GetDataBack for NTFS, Recover My Files and Diskinternals utilities to try
and recover the file from both drives to no avail. Is it possible the file
just vanished into the ether during the move? Or that somehow it's
disappeared but the FAT record is still causing the space on the external to
show as used even though there's nothing there?

I'd really like to get my favourites back which were included in the
migration. The rest (e-mails, videos, etc) can be replaced with a bit of
downloading and friendly bribery.

Any help is much appreciated, otherwise I'm ready to call it quits and chalk
this up to a lesson learned.
