Hi James,This might sound insulting but I don't mean it too. Have you tried the HD in different USB ports. I had a similar problem a while back with a USB device. Every time I put the device in Windows would say that the device had malfunctioned and could not be recognized. After this the port would not work until I either restarted the PC or Windows realized that the port was empty.

Hi, I have a bit of a problem here. Last night my external 1TB Western Digital drive was working as normal, but when I booted my machine this morning the hard drive is not recognized by Windows. I just get a message saying the device has malfunctioned and that Windows does not recognize it. I have tried connecting it to my netbook, with the exact same result. The hard drive is spinning up fine, and seems to be opparating physically as normal. Any ideas, is my hard drive, to put it bluntly, dead? Both machines were running XP Pro SP3. -- James Scholes http://www.jls-radio.com ** To leave the list, click on the immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=unsubscribe] ** If this link doesn't work then send a message to: ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ** and in the Subject line type ** unsubscribe ** For other list commands such as vacation mode, click on the ** immediately-following link:- ** [mailto:access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx?subject=faq] ** or send a message, to ** access-uk-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the Subject:- faq
