Hello Steve, I received the attached text list of the main guitar chords from someone else on a guitaring list. It should help in most cases but is not exhaustive, e.g. the B chord is explained as a four string chord not using a barre but, of course, the full B chord would be a five string chord with a barre on the second fret. Hi All, Anyone know a good resource for guitar chords? As in, the fingering and fret positions etc. Also, anyone done their guitar grades without reading braille music? Although I understand the make up of sheet music, I can no longer read it and don't know braille music. Any ideas anyone? Steve
Guitar Chords There are 12 basic chords: A A sharp or B flat B C C sharp or D flat D D sharp or E flat E F F sharp or G flat G G sharp or A flat If a chord does not state its minor or major status, it is a major chord, e.g. e alone means e major. There are 8 common chord variations: Augmented Diminished Major Major 7th Minor Minor 7th 9th 7th The chord name will be given first, followed by a series of numbers. Generally, the numbers will contain three digits (the first corresponding to the finger, then the string, then the fret); in some cases parentheses will be used to indicate more than one string (bar chord). Each separate set of digits represents a finger. After the series of numbers will appear either a one digit number, indicating the number of strings to strum, or the word ALL indicating to strum all six strings. The [2-3] means hold down the first and second string. The 1 after the brackets means the first fret. So, you will use the first finger to bar the first and second strings on the first fret. Your second finger to hold the second fret on the third string, and your third finger to hold the third fret on the fourth string. You will only strum the top four strings for this chord. This is only one way to play an F chord, if you wanted a fuller sound, using all 6 strings, you would take the E major shape, slide it up one fret, and use your first finger to bar across all 6 strings on the first fret. I Have a short list of about seven chords and am practising them now but would like to get a list of other chords for reference later. Unfortunately, all the chord lists I've come across in e-books and generally on the Net are given in visual terms, such as pictures of guitars with strings with rings or crosses on them or in some other form of indecipherable code. Does anyone have a list of chords they can let me have or know of where I can download some in terms of text telling you which strings you hold down, on which frets and with which finger? Any assistance would be much appreciated.
