Can you tell me: 1) Will the enter and delete keys always be in the same position on the keypad, regardless of the type of terminal. It would be convenient if they were in the positions of the hash and star keys on a telephone. 2) Once my card has been read how do I know if the system is ready to receive the PIN? Is there a time limit on my entering my PIN? > > Please do not advise me that I can opt to sign, as this would clearly be a return to a less secure method. > > A > > You asked about the layout of enter and delete keys on PIN pads. There are two accepted formats for the cancel, clear and enter keys. These will be located either vertically to the right of the number keys (with cancel at the top right) or horizontally below the number keys (with cancel at the bottom left). All PIN pads need to follow the international standards for terminal design, and the vast majority will have tactile features, including a raised dot on the 5 button. Retail staff will be happy to help you locate these keys and will help you through the process when you pay. > > You also asked about knowing when to enter the PIN. The member of staff will know from their own display that the system is ready for you to enter your PIN and will let you know at the appropriate time. There may be time limits for entering PIN and these will vary depending on the setup of each retailers system. However, retailers are fully aware that all customers need sufficient time to enter their PIN comfortably and safely and should have set their systems up accordingly. > > > > > To send feedback or get more information on PIN Alert or the Chip and PIN Programme, please contact us through info@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx or visit our website at (http://chipandpinpolls.ctr0.com/redirect/380-636-15-6-af1 > > You have been sent this email as a result of your involvement in the implementation of chip and PIN in the UK.
